Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), also known as Lye and Caustic Soda. When sodium hydroxide mixed with a liquid, a lye solution is created, which is a strong alkali. Lye forms a great soap base for the production of natural cold process bar soap. Our lye comes in a safe container fitted with a resealable cap.
A basic soap recipe just needs a few essential ingredients: Water, vegetable fat, essential oils for fragrance, and lye. However, you may want to consider an additional list of ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter that are beneficial to the skin. Lye solution, when mixed with fats and oils, will cause a chemical reaction called saponification. The result of saponification is beautiful natural handmade soap.

Always add the lye to the water, and NOT the water to the lye. An unpleasant, violent reaction occurs if you do.

Saponification usually takes about 24-48 hours to occur, followed by a curing (drying) time of 4 to 6 weeks. At the end of this period, your homemade soap should have a pH between 8 and 10. To test the pH, moisten your soap and place a pH indicator strip on it. Remove and check the colour of the paper.

保存方法 Storage:
Store in a closed container at a dry and cool place. Away from direct heat and sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary. Keep out of reach of children.
注意事項 Contraindication:
For external use only, and should not be ingested. Should not be stored within the reach of children. Wear goggles, rubber gloves, long sleeved shirts and pants when using lye. Any spills on your skin and eyes should be flushed with water for 30 minutes. Large spills and exposure to eyes will require immediate medical attention after flushing with water. Keep away from clothing. Avoid all contact with aluminum.
